IMiN is a national hub for Mining 4.0 excellence, established at TEXMiN, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in collaboration with Coal India Limited (CIL). The centre integrates digital innovation, advanced automation, and sustainable practices across the mining and energy sectors. IMiN accelerates technology development, rapid field deployment, and interdisciplinary research, while nurturing entrepreneurial talent and supporting start-up incubation.

Activities at IMiN span cutting-edge R&D, pilot-scale implementation, skills development, and capacity building. About IIT (ISM)

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad — established in 1926 — is one of India’s premier institutions of national importance. Originally founded to address the need for skilled manpower in mining and earth sciences, IIT (ISM) has since evolved into a multidisciplinary institute offering cutting-edge education and research across engineering, applied sciences, management, and humanities.

MoU Signing

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad & Coal India Limited

TEXMiN - IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has partnered with Coal India Limited (CIL) to establish the “Innovation in Mining (IMiN) – Centre of Excellence (CoE)” at CIL HQ, Kolkata. This marks a major step toward India’s Mining 4.0 vision, focusing on innovation, performance evaluation, and sustainable mining technologies.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Shri P. M. Prasad, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, CIL, along with senior dignitaries from both organizations.

The IMiN CoE aims to drive research, skill development, and technology adoption to make India self-reliant and align with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
